Indigenous Education Programmes Provider Guidelines 2005-2008
This document gives an outline of the Indigenous Education Programmes (“IEP”) administered by the Australian Government Department of Education, Science and Training during 2005-2008, for clients and service providers. The Guidelines include IEP objectives, administrative requirements and funding arrangements. The Guidelines also include the Australian Government Proirities for 2005-2008, which can be divided into four categories:
• Involvement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People in Educational Decision-Making;
• Equality of Access to Educational Services;
• Equity of Educational Participation; and
• Equitable and Appropriate Educational Outcomes
Despite improvement in the area of education, unacceptable disadvantage remains. Gaps persist between Indigenous and non-Indigenous student outcomes across the education and training sectors. The Australian Government’s Indigenous education and training programmes are supplementary to mainstream funding, and are intended for strategic interventions that will accelerate improvement in Indigenous student learning outcomes.

Aboriginal Career Aspirations Program (ACAP)
The program was developed to cater for the particular needs of Indigenous students. It was established by the Office of the Board of Studies NSW, to provide curriculum and resources that could be used to enhance Indigenous knowledge, skills and access to career pathways information. The program also aims to produce materials to stimulate across, key learning areas, perspectives that would serve the dual purpose of raising the self-esteem and importance of the curriculum to Indigenous students and the larger task of raising the Indigenous profile of all students across as many subject areas as possible.
